A History of the Wests Magpies
A History of the Wests Magpies
Western Suburbs joined the inaugural Australian Rugby League competition in 1908, but had to wait many years for their first premiership title.
Wests made three Grand Finals in a row in the 1960s, as they formed a keen rivalry with the champion St George side of the era. The Magpies set up a new rivalry with Manly in the 1970s, but were unable to recapture the glory of premiership victory in their final years.
Players such as Frank McMillan, Keith Holman, Peter Dimond, Arthur Summons, Kel O’Shea, Tom Raudonikis, John Donnelly, John Dorahy, and Les Boyd are forever etched in the history of the Wests Magpies.
Relive each year of Wests’ journey in a round by round account of the premier rugby league competition. Including statistical information, this is a must for rugby league fans.
