The Perth based West Coast Eagles was formed in 1986, and was one of two expansion sides to join the Victorian Football League in 1987 (along with the Brisbane Bears). As the competition rebranded as the Australian Football League in 1990, West Coast became a powerhouse, making the finals in every year of the decade. The Eagles have been a regular visitor to the post-season during the twenty-first century.
